Voice Thread

Multiple Intelligences 

What worked well with this Voice Thread lesson plan was the interaction my students had while making their audio and writing comments doing the research of the causes of early 1900s inventions (the telephone, electric lamps, automobiles/trollies, and food canneries)and how they effected the change and growth in Texas. After they found the information on their invention in their Social Studies book, they were excited to learn about what they had to do for the Voice Thread. Some of the students remembered the Voice Thread from previous PSTs' projects.

What I would do differently next time is allow the students more time to research their designated invention because only 1 group completed their research and Voice Thread comments out of the total of 4 groups. This lesson was done on Wednesday, and I had to continue this lesson on the following Friday in order to complete the Voice Thread.

I enjoyed watching Christina's VT. although she was one of my fellow PSTs, I still wanted to see how she completed hers. She walked to each of the groups using her ipad to do the VT instead of having her students go to one of the classroom's computers. I really like the questions that she posted for her students because it actually takes the students out of their own protective element and think about how the Dustbowl affected Texans' way of life.

Mindy, another one of my fellow 4th grade PSTs, did excellent with her VT on the roaring 20s. Hers mostly focused on the music during this era. I like how she asked the students to compare their 'now' music with the Jazz music of 'yesterday.'

I also liked Laura's VT for Texas Public School's Week cowboy and cowgirl theme. Her VT was very creative and asked the students to be creative when they answer the questions 'If I were a cowboy/cowgirl, I would see...eat...wear...' She really made those 1st graders think!

TIE Blog 1

For the Voice Thread project the 4th grade PSTs, Mindy, Christina and I, will give a lesson plan in Social Studies, Texas History. My concentration will be from the years 1900 to 1920, where the Texans dealt with conflicts along Mexico border. Mindy's concentrating on the years 1920 to 1929, where a business boom changed the lives of many Texans. Christina will concentrate on the time of the Great Depression, a terrible Texas drought and World War II, from 1930 to 1945. We have not fully decided on the direction of the lesson plan yet, but we know that we will be teaching the timeline of these eras after Texas become a state.

Technology Integration Experience (TIE) Thoughts

 Voice Thread is the new tool for teaching students. Showing lesson plans or student's work through the use of technology is the best way a teacher can successfully get his/her students' attention and involvement. Students can easily access their classmate's work and comment on it by verbally leaving a message or by typing out a message. Not only does the class get involved, but the community as well because the Voice Thread can be posted and available for comment by parents, churches, and other schools around the globe. After looking at several Voice Thread examples done by teachers and preservice teachers, I found a couple that interested me. One had her Kindergarten students write a phrase and draw a picture of what they are thankful for. Then she had the students read and comment on what they drew. Another separated her students into 3 groups; each having their own questions to answer in the Voice Thread either by using their voice or through texting. This project was on bodies of water. I really think that I will enjoy incorporating Voice Thread in my classroom.
